A Mother’s Day Tribute (to the women who paved the way)

Happy Mother’s Day to every woman who has stood in the gap or simply helped someone else be the best woman and mom they could be. We see you, we feel you and today we acknowledge you!

This year for Mother’s Day I wanted to take a moment to highlight some very important women in my life. Growing up I was blessed to be surrounded by amazing, brilliant and selfless women and I am so thankful God placed each one of them in my life. Before I begin my highlight moments I want to pause and say thank you to my aunties and my great aunts who not only raised or helped raise remarkable children but who steered me in the right direction, I love you all so much!

So without further ado I would like to begin honoring some pretty amazing mothers!

Grandma Camm
There was no one quite like my Grandma “G-ma” she was the best cook, story teller, listener and an amazing woman. My grandma went home to be with the Lord in 2018 and to be honest I am still trying to figure out how to navigate life without her. We always had the best talks and I loved spending time with her, she was truly a remarkable woman. She raised five amazing children and she ensured that they were taken care of. She was a shining example of what unconditional love looks and feels like. You could feel the love my Grandma had for you as you walked into her home, everything about her would light up when she saw you walk through her front door. It didn’t matter if you were over her house the day prior she still lit up every time she laid eyes on you. My Grandma had a sweet spirit and she was my safe space, her home was my place of peace during the most chaotic times in my life. Grandma always had a word of wisdom for you but only if you were willing to receive it, she wasn’t going to go round and round with you! Grandma was the sweetest most loving woman I had ever met besides my own mother. I miss her dearly and I pray that I am making her proud.

Grandma Agnew
My grandma is full and I mean completely full of love, truth and wisdom. She is a very quiet woman but she sees a lot, not just naturally but also spiritually. She is gifted in a way that will almost knock the socks off of you if you aren't careful. She loves the Lord with everything within her and I know when she says “I will be praying” she will be praying. There is nothing like a grandmother’s prayer, I know her prayer reaches the Lord’s ear.  My grandma was married to my papa for over fifty years (if I’m not mistaken) and they both loved each other and respected each other. When my Papa passed away I watched my Grandma carry forth the mission God had given her. Her faith never wavered, her trust in God never weakened, I actually think she trusted him even more! She showed me that even through the deepest heartache God still deserves the praise and he still deserves honor. My grandma is a pillar of strength, hope, love and faith. I am so thankful for her and for all the wonderful life lessons she has taught me.

Mommy

I am blessed.. Honestly, I don’t even think there are words to describe how blessed I am. To have a mother who is not only beautiful on the inside but beautiful on the outside is a true gift. My mom is a natural caregiver, she loves to care for others especially children. Growing up my mother was a social worker and worked with adolescents and she loved each and every one of those kids as if they were her own. It’s amazing looking back on those moments now and knowing that those children just needed to be loved, they needed a mom and that my mother was able to step in the gap for them, brings tears to my eyes. I have watched my Mom endure heartache and pain but she rose up every time with such beauty and class. She has always been there, I can remember a time when I was bawling my eyes out over a middle school crush I had and she sat with me for a long time and just reminded me that I was beautiful and worthy of REAL love. Little did I know that middle school and high school love was just temporary, back then I couldn’t see it but she loved me through it. We often talk about those moments now and we laugh, my Mom knew I would eventually get over it. She never rushed me or try to downplay my overflowing waves of emotions instead she loved and I mean loved me through it. Thank you for fighting for me since day 1 you believed that God would bring me through and he sure did! Your miracle baby is here to tell the story.
I honor you today and forever mom (my twin!)

Momma V

Since the moment I met you, you have been consistent, loving, caring and supportive. I am so thankful to have a mother in love like you! I am blessed beyond measure and I am glad to have you in my life. When people ask me “How is your relationship with your in-laws?” I look at them and say, “They are the best, I love them so much.” Momma V you made it easy for me to love you. You gave me the space to be me and you have covered me when I needed it. Thank you for always being there with a smile and a hug. You are truly a gift from God and I cannot thank him enough. I always say, “when you marry the RIGHT person, everything falls in place.” And it truly does, only God could’ve blessed me with a wonderful mother in love like you.

My mentor, supporter and encourager THANK YOU!! Thank you for being a mom to all the young girls who needed a mother figure growing up. You came into my life during the right time and you have been there for me. Watching you be a wonderful mom to my dear friend B and Josiah has been a blessing. No matter where life has taken us you always had a word to speak over my life. Thank you for every prayer you have prayed, for answering the late night phone calls and for providing a different perspective when needed. You are an angel and I am so glad God sent you my way!

Deandra (big sister)
I remember the day you called me and told me you were expecting, tears.... tears.... (ya’ll I cried!) I was so happy for you and then when I got to see my niece for the first time (more tears.... yes, I cried a lot) Watching you these past few years has been absolutely amazing, getting to see you and Ari grow together has been magnificent. Motherhood looks good on you and it shines in everything you do. I love the way you care for my niece, I love seeing you embrace each day with a positive outlook and perspective. Watching you be a mom has been a highlight of my life, it has been impactful, encouraging and uplifting. You are doing an amazing job and I am so glad God blessed you with Ari, she will grow up and get to experience the gift that you are! What an absolute treasure!

Welcome to motherhood!!!! You have blossomed into an amazing mother, Taiden is so blessed to have you in his life.
